We were invited to see Toronto’s Polaris and JUNO-nominated DARCYS perform songs from their just-announced new record Centerfold in Vancouver at the Commodore last Thursday and Friday August 11 and 12.

Jason Couse, singing while on his synthesizer and guitar, looked liked a white-leather angel with his stand-out fringey jacket. I admired Wes Marskell on the drums, as well as the bushy moustache he was rocking.

With the DARCYS in character, we were taken along a musical journey through a warm and sunny set-list you may have found while cruising along the West Coast in the 1980s. With the great flow of synthetic sounds, bass and vocals, all that was missing was a warm breeze and the smell of the ocean in the air. It was a real treat for the audience and I to groove and relax along to the talented DARCYS to wrap up our week.

The most memorable song performed was their latest track, “San Diego, 1988.” This song will be on their upcoming album , that is currently available for pre-order. Their tracks, recorded at the Red Bull Studios in Auckland, New Zealand, drew from their long-standing influences like Prince, The Killers, MGMT, and Chromeo.
