Earlier this afternoon, my students and I were walking around downtown looking for Cause Marketing examples of how organizations support and promote the PRIDE weekend. Marianne laughed when I motioned everyone to gather for a group photo.”Yumi! You’re just like my mom when we go on vacations!”

Vacations can be easy to coordinate if the parties are flexible and accommodating to a lot of changes. When the group size grows and the budgets grow smaller, it can be challenging for both families and classrooms to find opportunities to get away to learn to explore.

We wanted to experience how families celebrated Fridays in the summer at YVR with #YVRTakeOffFridays. To connect the ideas of Cause Marketing, Green Advertising with family fun, my design students and I took the Canada Line to YVR on a Friday afternoon for a mini-staycation and field trip. Here are highlights from our experience.

Science World
We waited for the free 11am Explorer tour by The Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe (the massive iconic green statue). While shuffling along to the live jazz band, we also watched fun science demos with Science World.

By the Observation Area, there was a caricaturist along with other areas for interactive learning.

Every week, there’s something new and different featured at #YVRTakeOffFridays. This year, these Friday events run until August 26th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
