Beer lovers across Canada can now discover the crazy good taste of Mad Jack premium apple lager that’s available nationally* for the first time. In 2014, Mad Jack debuted in Ontario and Quebec where it quickly captured taste buds as a delicious thirst-quenching option for the beer-drinking occasion. Now, drinkers in other provinces can get a welcome taste of Mad Jack starting April 2015.
We were sent a couple samples of Mad Jack in bottle and canned form to try. After a long day of paperwork processing, I asked my marketing colleagues to partake in trying a little bit of Mad Jack. Most of my colleagues drink lighter beers and were delighted to try out a new crispy alternative.
We all agreed that Mad Jack was tangy and smooth for an apple-based beer beverage. We also all concurred that it was a great balance of apple and beer tastes. Dependent on the drinking-style of each colleague, there was a range of how they described tasting Mad Jack from “a light fruity beer” to “strong, bubbly apple juice” to “it smells a little like wine”. Personally, I really liked how it was just the right amount of tanginess and sweetness, nothing too over bearing.
All-in-all, in the upcoming warmer months in Vancouver, our teams will be incorporating a few bottles of Mad Jack in our upcoming team barbecues.
How to serve Mad Jack?
Mad Jack is best served like your favourite beer. This premium apple lager contains no preservatives and 156 calories per 341 mL bottle, which is comparable to most traditional lagers, and fewer calories than most hard apple ciders. Mad Jack contains 5% ABV (alcohol by volume).

2 cups Mad Jack, Premium Apple Lager
1 1⁄3 cup ketchup
¾ cup maple syrup
½ cup onion (finely chopped)
4 tablespoons molasses
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons chile powder
2 teaspoons mustard
A dash of cayenne pepper and black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer over medium heat. Stir until mixture is thick, about 20-30 minutes.
